Troubleshooting

Refreshed jewellery was over-polished

Aggressive refresh polishing can soften fine design details, remove too much metal, or damage a coating if it extends beyond the worn area.

Symptoms

  • Edges soften
  • Detail becomes less crisp
  • Coating or colour changes at high points
  • Surface looks overworked

Likely causes

  • Too many passes or excessive pressure
  • The item needed a different workflow
  • Coating risk was not considered before refresh

Checks

  • Inspect detail and high points frequently
  • Limit pass count
  • Confirm coating status before using a light refresh path with LUXI Blue

Recommended fixes

  • Stop and reassess process
  • Move to client-approved repair strategy if damage is visible
  • Avoid further polishing on coating-risk items

Prevention

  • Use light pressure and short passes
  • Apply the workflow only to light wear
  • Show coating warnings before light refresh polishing

Warning for plated or coated surfaces

Coated surfaces may include electroplating, flash plating, PVD/CVD coatings, lacquers and other decorative or protective layers. Mechanical polishing may thin, remove, discolor, detach or otherwise damage such coatings. Do not polish coated surfaces unless the coating type, thickness and repair strategy are understood and tested.
