Polishing started too early
A shiny but uneven surface often means major defects were not removed before polishing.
Likely causes
- Polishing started before correct surface preparation.
- Deep scratches, casting skin, sprues, burrs or protrusions were not removed.
- A soft buff was used to compensate for defects that required earlier preparation.
Checks
- Check wheel condition, compound amount, surface preparation and cleaning sequence.
Recommended fixes
- Return to controlled surface preparation.
- Remove major defects before polishing.
- Re-select the first-stage compound only after geometry is ready.
- Use special care on large flat surfaces.

- Do not expect polishing to replace preparation.
