Troubleshooting

Polishing started too early

A shiny but uneven surface often means major defects were not removed before polishing.

Symptoms

  • Surface becomes shiny but uneven.
  • Waves appear around defects.
  • Deep scratches or pits remain visible.
  • Edges around defects become rounded instead of corrected.
  • Large flat surfaces lose geometry.

Likely causes

  • Polishing started before correct surface preparation.
  • Deep scratches, casting skin, sprues, burrs or protrusions were not removed.
  • A soft buff was used to compensate for defects that required earlier preparation.

Checks

  • Check wheel condition, compound amount, surface preparation and cleaning sequence.

Recommended fixes

  • Return to controlled surface preparation.
  • Remove major defects before polishing.
  • Re-select the first-stage compound only after geometry is ready.
  • Use special care on large flat surfaces.

Prevention

  • Inspect before polishing.
  • Do not expect polishing to replace preparation.
  • Use LUXI as a controlled process, not as a shortcut around geometry correction.
