Contamination after green chromium-oxide polishing remains in recesses

After polishing with a traditional green chromium-oxide paste, dark hard-to-remove contamination may remain in recesses, pores, threads, or textured surfaces.

Dark green residue localized in multiple holes and recessed channels of a clean silvery fitting.

Symptoms

  • Dark contamination remains after cleaning.
  • Recessed areas look contaminated even when open surfaces are bright.

Likely causes

  • Contamination from traditional green chromium-oxide paste remained in difficult geometry.
  • The brush, thread or wheel carried too much compound into recesses.
  • Cleaning was not matched to the geometry.

Checks

  • Check recesses under magnification if needed.
  • Confirm whether the contamination is compound, oxide, coating residue or casting contamination.

Recommended fixes

  • Clean in a controlled way rather than increasing ultrasonic time aggressively.
  • Review compound amount and tool access.
  • Consider a cleaner LUXI route before coating-sensitive steps.

Prevention

  • Avoid overloading small tools and recessed geometry with compound.
  • Inspect contamination-prone zones before plating, PVD or decorative coating.
