LUXI can work the accessible surface of a porous casting: it can reduce accessible preparation marks and develop a controlled polished surface where sound metal is available.
3D-prototype casting context
This workflow applies to castings made from 3D prototypes where subsurface porosity may be present. The 3D-prototype origin identifies the case context; it is not presented as a universal cause of porosity.
What can happen as metal is removed
A pore that was below the visible surface can open as polishing removes metal. After one accessible pore is worked, another subsurface pore may appear. A better surface result therefore does not mean that the deeper volumetric cause has been eliminated.
When to stop
If a pore opens, grows or repeatedly reappears, stop and reassess the casting. Do not automatically intensify polishing. LUXI works the accessible surface; it does not repair subsurface porosity or remove its root cause.
