LUXI Blue

LUXI Blue is the standard first-stage polishing compound for first-group materials: copper alloys including brass and bronze, silver alloys, and most gold alloys. On a correctly prepared surface, it fully removes the visible marks from the last abrasive, produces a smooth even surface with a noticeable lustre, and creates the foundation for the selected finishing process.

Application context

Before using LUXI Blue, complete the item’s geometry, necessary repair, and abrasive preparation. Deep scratches, protruding defects, shape errors, cracks, open cavities, and other damage that polishing must not correct should be resolved before the first polishing stage begins. LUXI Blue does not replace incomplete preparation.

For ordinary items made from copper alloys including brass and bronze, silver alloys, and most gold alloys, an even preparation approximately to P600–P800 remains the working starting range. Select the exact level within that range—and whether finer preparation is needed—according to alloy hardness, geometry, surface area, the depth of the marks from the last abrasive, and the required result. Separate minimum and preferred grades are not introduced for LUXI Blue because the confirmed owner-approved evidence supports the working range P600–P800.

The primary working combination is LUXI Blue with a clean white stitched muslin wheel. Stitching supports the stability required for the first stage, while muslin provides the approved character of contact. LUXI Blue may also be used with a clean felt tool when the shape and working surface of the felt better match the geometry of a particular area. A felt tool must not automatically be treated as a replacement for the white stitched muslin wheel over the entire item.

For a standard wheel approximately 150 mm in diameter, the working starting range is 2500–3000 rpm. Do not transfer this range automatically to another diameter or to a small felt tool. Select the operating conditions according to actual linear surface speed, contact area, tool stability, and surface temperature. Insufficient action must not be compensated for with excessive pressure, excess LUXI Blue, or prolonged continuous contact.

Apply LUXI Blue minimally to a clean working tool. When the stopped wheel or felt tool is inspected, no visible blue layer should remain. The working body must contact the surface directly rather than slide over a thick layer of compound and removed metal. If the wheel becomes dark, clogged, or overloaded with accumulated compound, clean it before continuing.

Work in short passes, keep the item moving relative to the wheel, and stop regularly to inspect the surface. Pressure must maintain stable contact without overheating, edge loss, relief smoothing, or distortion of geometry. Monitor wheel condition, temperature, contact duration, and evenness of the result throughout the process.

The first LUXI Blue stage is complete only when all visible marks from the last abrasive have been fully removed, the surface is even and smooth with a noticeable lustre, and the intended geometry, edges, and relief have been preserved. Lustre alone is not a sufficient criterion if scratches, preparation lines, dull areas, or a contaminated surface layer remain after cleaning.

On large flat or open surfaces, harder alloys, or more pronounced preparation marks, LUXI Blue may not be active enough. Select a stronger first-stage compound and suitable working body: LUXI Yellow, LUXI Gray, or LUXI Black. LUXI Asian Blue remains a separate maximum-activity choice for tasks within its own owner-approved scope. LUXI Blue, LUXI Yellow, LUXI Gray, LUXI Black, and LUXI Asian Blue are alternative first-stage strengths, not a mandatory sequence for every item.

If visible marks from the last abrasive remain, first check abrasive preparation, tool type and cleanliness, the amount of LUXI Blue, rpm, contact area, pressure, item movement, pass duration, temperature, and cleaning quality. On a large flat surface, also check whether the selected compound and working body are active enough for the contact area. Additional LUXI Blue or more pressure must not replace correction of preparation or selection of the proper first-stage process.

If polishing opens or enlarges pores, cracks, cavities, or other defects outside the working range of LUXI polishing, stop. Return the item to abrasive preparation, repair, or an assessment of whether it is suitable to continue in production. More pressure or more LUXI Blue will not correct such defects.

After the LUXI Blue first stage has been fully completed, select one finishing option for first-group materials. Use LUXI Super Fine White as the standard finish for a high, even lustre on a separate clean unstitched muslin or flannel wheel; select the softer flannel wheel for a higher final lustre. Choose LUXI Red when black-trace inspection of micropores and small irregularities is useful, using a separate clean soft unstitched cotton wheel. Choose LUXI Orange for an exceptionally high even lustre, stricter final inspection, or preparation before electroplating, PVD, or another operation sensitive to compound residue, using a separate clean unstitched muslin or flannel wheel. LUXI Super Fine White, LUXI Red, and LUXI Orange are alternative finishing choices, not mandatory consecutive stages.

LUXI Blue may also be used for limited light refurbishment of an open metal surface with minor wear marks. This is a separate restricted task. It does not replace complete abrasive preparation and a first polishing stage when deep scratches, damaged geometry, open defects, or a damaged coating are present.

If the item has a coating, do not apply the standard LUXI Blue process automatically. First identify the surface material and the coating type, thickness, adhesion, and condition. Do not mechanically polish a thin decorative, protective, electroplated, or PVD layer if it must be preserved. A sufficiently thick and stable metal layer may be considered for polishing only after a material-specific test on a sample or non-critical area. An unknown coating is not a basis for a standard trial with LUXI Blue.

Before assessing the result or changing to the next compound, remove all LUXI Blue and removed metal. Inspect the clean surface under directed light, paying attention to flat areas, edges, relief, recesses, inside corners, and joints. Use a separate clean working tool of the appropriate type for the next compound. For compatible items, use LUXI iClean as the recommended washing solution; select the washing method according to the material, item construction, coating, and next operation.

LUXI Blue receives a surface after geometry, repair, and abrasive preparation have been completed and finishes the standard first stage by fully removing all visible marks from the last abrasive. If contact area, alloy hardness, or surface condition makes LUXI Blue insufficiently active, select a stronger first-stage alternative. After the completed LUXI Blue stage, use a separate clean tool with LUXI Super Fine White, LUXI Red, or LUXI Orange according to the required lustre, inspection method, and next production operation.
