Troubleshooting

Too much compound on the wheel

Too much compound on the wheel reduces process control and can slow polishing rather than improve it.

Dirty wheel and polishing debris

Symptoms

  • Too much compound is visible on the wheel.
  • Adding more compound does not improve polishing speed.

Likely causes

  • The wheel was charged repeatedly without cleaning.
  • The operator is using compound as if it were a conventional high-load polishing paste.

Checks

  • Check whether the wheel is clean, dry and lightly charged.

Recommended fixes

  • Clean the wheel.
  • Reapply compound with one light touch only.

Prevention

  • Start with less compound than feels familiar.
  • After two or three reapplications, clean the wheel before adding more compound.
