Why do scratches remain after polishing?
Gloss by itself does not mean the surface is ready for finishing. If scratches or preparation marks remain after polishing, check sanding quality, wheel condition, compound amount, cleaning and the choice of first-stage compound before moving to the finishing compound.
Likely causes
- The surface moved to polishing before sanding or preparation was complete.
- The first-stage LUXI compound is too fine for the remaining marks.
- The wheel is overloaded, dirty or too soft for the task.
- Visible shape, casting or repair defects are being treated as polishing defects.
Checks
- Check the quality of sanding and whether all coarse preparation marks were removed.
- Check wheel condition before adding more compound.
- Check compound amount: the wheel should not carry a thick dirty layer.
- Check whether the task needs a stronger first-stage LUXI compound before finishing.
- Clean the item and inspect under good light before moving to the finishing compound.
Recommended fixes
- Return to surface preparation if the marks are deeper than the first polishing stage should remove.
- Use the correct first-stage LUXI compound and wheel before moving to LUXI Super Fine White.
- Clean the wheel completely if it is dark, sticky or overloaded, then add compound minimally.
- For broad flat surfaces, check whether the first stage needs a more active setup.
- Do not use the finishing compound to hide remaining preparation defects.
Prevention
- Treat gloss and surface readiness as separate checks.
- Finish sanding or abrasive preparation before relying on polishing.
- Keep the wheel clean and lightly charged.
- Move to finishing only after the first-stage surface is even and free from visible defects.
