Compound residue before coating

Polishing residue remains before plating, PVD, lacquer or decorative coating.

Pale polishing-compound residue remaining in a metal component before coating.

Symptoms

  • Residue remains in recesses, pores, settings or texture before the item is sent to coating.
  • The surface is bright but not clean enough for the next process.

Likely causes

  • Too much compound was used.
  • The wheel was not cleaned before recharging.
  • The geometry traps residue.
  • The final cleaning route was not confirmed for this material and coating risk.

Checks

  • Inspect after cleaning and drying.
  • Check pores, undercuts, stone settings and fine texture.
  • Confirm whether the next process is plating, PVD, lacquer or decorative coating.

Recommended fixes

  • Return to controlled cleaning before the next process.
  • Reduce compound amount and clean the wheel if polishing must be repeated.
  • Use LUXI Super Fine White as the standard clean finish; use LUXI Orange for exceptional brightness or coating, plating or PVD preparation, and controlled LUXI Red only where red visual feedback is useful.

Prevention

  • Make post-cleaning inspection part of the pre-coating checklist.
  • Use minimal compound and avoid wheel overload.
  • Do not send residue-sensitive items forward while residue is still visible.

Warning for plated or coated surfaces

Coated surfaces may include electroplating, flash plating, PVD/CVD coatings, lacquers and other decorative or protective layers. Mechanical polishing may thin, remove, discolor, detach or otherwise damage such coatings. Do not polish coated surfaces unless the coating type, thickness and repair strategy are understood and tested.
