On a standard wheel, diameter, speed and contact area are usually sufficient for the compound to work in its normal temperature range. On a small tool the conditions are different: the diameter is smaller, linear speed is often lower, contact is softer, pressure is transmitted differently and the working zone remains colder.
A small tool must therefore not be treated as a reduced copy of a large wheel. It needs its own logic of compound selection, carrier, pressure and pass duration.
Why a small tool works differently
Rpm alone does not show how actively the tool works.
An 8 mm felt attachment at 15000 rpm gives about 6.3 m/s. For comparison, a 152 mm standard wheel at 2500 rpm gives about 19.9 m/s. The standard wheel therefore has about 3.2 times higher linear speed, even at lower rpm.
A cotton wrap on a polishing motor spindle, about 15 mm in diameter, at 2500 rpm gives about 2.0 m/s. This is about 10 times lower than the 152 mm standard wheel at the same 2500 rpm.
Work inside a ring, in relief, in recesses or on a small attachment therefore requires a different technological logic. What matters is not only rpm, but access, stable contact, compound retention on the carrier and temperature at the working point.

What low-temperature polishing means
Low-temperature polishing is work in a contact zone where the tool does not create the same temperature and energy as a standard polishing wheel.
This often happens when working inside a ring, with a felt attachment, cotton wrap, small cylinder, brush, cotton thread or cord, in relief, in recesses or in hard-to-reach areas.
If the usual large-wheel logic is used in such a zone, the result may be unstable. The compound may activate poorly, work may be slow, and the operator may begin compensating with pressure or excess compound.
In the LUXI system, this is the wrong compensation. In this situation, compound and tool must be selected for the contact conditions.
When control matters
For cotton and felt small tools, control is usually the main requirement.
Typical situations include inside-ring polishing, cotton wrap on a spindle or cone, cylindrical felt attachment, a small closed form, a sensitive surface, local work without strong removal, and a zone where a large wheel cannot be used.
In such cases, LUXI Green is used. Its role is controlled low-temperature work on cotton and felt small tools.
LUXI Green is not used simply because it is “soft.” More precisely, it helps maintain controlled surface action where the small tool works colder and more delicately than a standard wheel.
For inside-ring polishing this is especially important. A cotton wrap or felt attachment gives access and control, but not the same linear speed and contact energy as a large wheel. This is why LUXI Green is used for that work.
When retention on the carrier matters
In relief, recesses, undercuts and brush work, the task changes. It is important not only to control temperature, but also to keep the compound on the carrier.
A brush, thread or cord must carry the compound into a hard-to-reach zone. If the compound does not hold on the fibres, it falls away, does not reach the working zone or works for too short a time.
In such cases, LUXI Purple is used. It holds better on bristles, cotton thread or cord than LUXI Green. This matters because the fibrous carrier has to bring the compound into the relief, recess or undercut and preserve the working action in the contact zone.
Selecting compound for small tools
The simplified logic is:
LUXI Green — for controlled work on cotton and felt small tools, inside rings and sensitive surfaces.
LUXI Purple — for brushes, cord, thread, relief and recesses where compound retention on the carrier and more active local action matter.
LUXI Green is better where delicacy, stable contact and control are important.
LUXI Purple is better where the tool is fibrous or bristled, and the compound must stay on the carrier and be transferred into complex geometry.
This is not a universal ladder from LUXI Green → LUXI Purple. It is a choice between different contact types.
If the result is reached slowly
If the result is reached slowly, do not immediately increase pressure or add more compound.
First check whether the carrier is clean, whether the tool geometry is correct, whether the contact is stable, whether the compound reaches the working zone, whether the compound is suitable for the contact temperature and whether the surface has been prepared enough.
If the work is done with cotton wrap or felt inside a ring, it is usually best to check the LUXI Green technique.
If the work is done with a brush, cord, thread or in relief, and the compound does not hold on the carrier, LUXI Purple should be considered.
Why LUXI Asian Blue is not the ordinary next step
LUXI Asian Blue is not the ordinary next step after LUXI Green or LUXI Purple.
It is a separate scheme for more rigid brush work in difficult recesses, wedge-like gaps or areas with open porosity. It should not be used as a universal strengthening option if LUXI Green or LUXI Purple work slowly.
The usual logic is:
- LUXI Green — cotton, felt, inside of a ring, controlled low-temperature work;
- LUXI Purple — brush, cord, thread, relief, recesses, compound retention on the carrier;
- LUXI Asian Blue — a separate scheme for a rigid brush and difficult recesses when it is truly needed.
Washing after work with small tools
Small tools, brushes, relief and recesses require careful washing.
After work, check that compound residue has not remained inside the ring, in recesses, undercuts, around stones, in relief, between links or in areas that a normal wheel does not reach.
LUXI Purple requires especially careful checking because its carrier retention is higher. This helps during polishing, but after work the relief must be inspected for remaining compound.
For controlled washing after polishing, the LUXI system uses iClean where the material, stones, coating and construction of the item allow it.

Typical mistakes
Judging a small tool only by rpm.
High rpm does not mean high linear speed or sufficient temperature in the contact zone.
Trying to polish inside a ring with large-wheel logic.
Inside-ring polishing requires a separate small-tool workflow. For cotton wraps and felt tools, LUXI Green is usually used.
Adding more compound when the tool works cold.
If the compound does not activate, excess compound will not solve the problem. Choose a compound and carrier suitable for the colder contact zone.
Confusing the tasks of LUXI Green and LUXI Purple.
LUXI Green is used for cotton and felt small tools, especially inside a ring. LUXI Purple is used for brushes, cord, thread, relief and recesses, where retention on a fibrous carrier and transfer into complex geometry matter.
Using LUXI Green where compound must stay on a brush or cord.
If compound falls away or does not transfer into relief, the LUXI Purple logic is needed.
Moving to LUXI Asian Blue as an ordinary strengthening step.
LUXI Asian Blue belongs to a separate rigid-brush scheme for difficult recesses.
Washing relief insufficiently after LUXI Purple.
Better compound retention helps during work, but requires careful washing after polishing.
